Expectations, etc.
-
Sessions are scheduled for approximately 50 minutes. While I strive to start promptly, please understand that I may occasionally run 5-10 minutes behind schedule due to the nature of my work. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
-
Please provide as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule appointments. This helps accommodate other clients and avoids our no-show/late cancellation policy, which I’d rather you not have to deal with.
-
Occasionally, I may need to reach out to reschedule appointments to accommodate other clients. Your flexibility in adjusting your appointment time is appreciated, but if you can't, your originally scheduled appointment will be honored.
-
Expect occasional text or email correspondence from me related to therapy, such as reminders, interventions, or relevant materials. Feel free to respond if you wish, but there's zero obligation or expectation to do so, except for scheduling changes where a reply is appreciated.
-
Therapy homework may be assigned throughout your treatment. You decide whether to complete these assignments; there's no pressure either way. We'll work together regardless of your approach to homework.
-
I take private psychotherapy notes during sessions, stored securely and separately from your medical record. These notes are protected by federal law and are not accessible to clients or courts. Clinical notes that are part of your medical record contain minimal information, focusing on session content rather than personal details.
-
I prioritize transparency and will share my thoughts, feelings, and opinions openly. Your feedback and questions are necessary, as they help tailor our sessions and shape our relationship to your needs and promote growth.
-
I'm fallible. If I ever say or do something you disagree with, find unhelpful, or are negatively impacted by, please communicate that, or voice your complaint. Healthy functioning relationships make space for confrontation. I value the vulnerability, humility, and learning that is there.
-
Therapy is your journey, not mine. You're the expert on yourself, and your wants and needs take precedence. I'm here to support and guide you without judgment, respecting your autonomy and choices. Let's walk this path together, honoring your process and growth.
